JISR - Management and Social Sciences & Economics Journal Contents

Volume 7, Number 1, January 2009

Editorial

The Journal of Independent Studies and Research (JISR) has entered the seventh year of its publication. During this short period of time, it has received tremendous response from the academia, scholars and researchers alike particularly those working in the fields of management, social sciences and economics. Significantly, JISR-Management, Social Sciences and Economics (MSSE) has recently been recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan. This comes not just as recognition of the journal and the quality of its content but also of the people who have been associated with the publication, especially editors, contributors, publishers, readers and students of Independent Studies and liberal sciences. The journal is all the more geared up for producing substantive and valuable research and as a result contributing to the evolution and growth of research culture in Pakistan.

The need for such publications which, on the one hand, add to research work and literature in the country and, on the other hand, encourage and promote researchers from important fields is acknowledged without questioning. Moreover, the simultaneously multidimensional and specialization specific orientation that JISR-MSSE provides to the academia is an important contribution which merits encouragement and perhaps also replication.

The current issue of JISR-MSSE is a volume which contains thirteen research papers on the fields covered by the JISR-MSSE. The specific topics covered range from experimental studies like ‘Integrating ICT with ICM’, investigative studies like ‘Identifying Compulsive Buyers’, management-psychological issues like ‘Job Stress among Software Professionals in Pakistan’ to perspective based analyses like ‘Causes and Prevention of Population Explosion’. Though most of the content is both an outcome and manifestation of SZABIST’s research program, an effort has been made to give equal and due space to papers by outside contributors.

The journal is determined to play an even more active role in producing quality research work by offering itself as an outlet for rigorous and theoretically informed analyses in the fields covered but not limited to management, social sciences and economics. Therefore, we invite researchers and academics, both inside and outside the country, working at different institutions, including inter alia universities, centers, colleges, governmental organizations, NGOs and corporate enterprises to join in hands with us in promoting and developing research culture in Pakistan.
