JISR - Management and Social Sciences & Economics Journal Contents

Volume 8, Number 1, January 2010

It is both professionally elevating and intellectually gratifying to report that with this issue, the Journal of Independent Studies and Research – Management, Social Sciences and Economics (JISR-MSSE) has entered the eighth year of its publication, while maintaining the highest standards of research in Pakistan. Since our inception, it has been one of our main goals to serve as the primary outlet and disseminator of research in the fields of Management, Social Sciences and Economics in Pakistan.

In our efforts to enhance the quality of the Journal, we have not only established a distinguished Editorial Board, consisting of outstanding researchers and professors from different countries such as Japan, Canada, US, UK, Austria, Oman and so forth, but have also succeeded in establishing a large, international and well qualified referee board so that the articles published in the Journal are chosen through double blind peer review process, enhancing the clarity, accuracy and quality of the papers published. Besides publishing the Journal in hard format, we have also succeeded in providing open access research to anyone with an internet connection anywhere in the world. Furthermore, although the Journal is available free of charge online, we can deliver a hard copy to any prospective buyer for nominal charges.

The current issue of JISR-MSSE contains seventeen research papers, pertaining to the fields covered in its multidisciplinary scope. The specific topics covered in this issue range from investigative analysis of regional stock markets to experimental inquiry about shopping competence of Gen Y women, from individual organizational examination of downsizing at HBL to comparative institutional study of banking industry in Pakistan and from emerging leadership trends in politics to exploration of emerging Corporate Social Responsibility partnerships in Pakistan and beyond.

Since there is a considerable growth in our readership base and now as we cater to an ever expanding audience via internet, I take this opportunity to invite researchers, academicians and practitioners, both from within and outside of Pakistan, to send their rigorously researched papers that can benefit our society in the resolution of socio-economic problems.

As we celebrate the Journal’s continued growth, we would like to thank our researchers and reviewers, who have contributed to the Journal’s success and as always expect our readers to send us their valuable feedback at, so that we can integrate it in order to further enhance the quality of the Journal.
