JISR - Management and Social Sciences & Economics Journal Contents

Volume 9, Number 1, January 2011

Even through a cursory glance at the recent history of different societies and civilizations, it becomes quite evident that their progress significantly depended on the nexus that they managed to establish between knowledge based on objectivity and development steered towards socioeconomic needs of the populace. In the globalized world of the twenty-first century, the obviousness of this link and realization of its centrality to the progress of any society are indisputable.

Given the importance of the above mentioned, SZABIST has from the outset made it a cornerstone of its policy to train and assist Pakistani researchers to identify, analyze and suggest solutions to indigenous problems faced by Pakistan's economy and society. To do so, from 2003, Journal of Independent Studies and Research - Management, Social Sciences and Economics (JISR-MSSE), a biannual, HEC recognized, double blind peer review research journal has been incessantly published and distributed throughout Pakistan and beyond.

With the publication of this issue of JISR-MSSE, I am pleased to report that our journal has successfully completed nine years of publication without fail. In the current issue of JISR, there are in total ten research articles themes of which range from, inter alia, exploratory study of foreign direct investment in Pakistan to comparative analysis of growth performance in productivity between Pakistan and India. This issue also contains investigative research on topics like causative factors of downturn in growth of stock market in Pakistan to geostrategic implications of US foreign policy under President Obama for Pakistan. In one study problems of women borrowers are investigated in the context of group loan repayment while in another paper you will find the reaction of Baloch people about the NFC Awards 2009 and their historical antecedents.

When JISR-MSSE was launched, it was decided that, to make it a truly scholarly success, our next goal should be to both expand its scope and make it accessible to as many people as possible. Although unprecedented in any developing country, for the generation, diffusion and optimal utilization of research through JISR, it was agreed that apart from making it available in hard format, it will also be made available to anybody anywhere in the world through open access and without any subscription charges.

In the final analysis, it must be acknowledged that JISR-MSSE has thrived because of three different but interconnected components. First among the list that deserves mention are researchers, who through their rigorously done research have made this journal the success that it today is. Secondly, mention must be made of our review board members for their active involvement in bringing quality to the work published. Thirdly and finally, it is you, the readers of JISR-MSSE, who have through your feedback kept us informed about shortcomings in the journal and have identified areas in which further improvement was required. As always, we look forward to your suggestions that can be sent to us at:
